Itai Kriss & Telavana - “Supermoon” Liner Notes
“Supermoon” was born out of a desire to celebrate the cosmos and creation through music. For me, the astrological signs of the zodiac represent different facets of a shared humanity and I think that each of us has some characteristics of every sign, even if some are prominent and some are hidden. The signs of the zodiac also represent a connection between us humans here on earth and the stars; up above and far beyond our reach, ever present, ancient and mysterious. The planets and stars have been there since before we existed and most of them will still be there after we’re gone, but they are far from fixed and permanent, they have their own trajectories, orbits and interplays.
To travel through the signs of the zodiac is also to travel through time, to take a trip around the sun and marvel at the cycles, big and small, that make up our lives. The seasons, the months and the daily revolutions of the earth give us our sense of rhythm and continuity, even as we know that the world is in constant flux and that nothing ever stays the same. The moon as it waxes and wanes is born, grows, diminishes and is reborn each month. The lunar life cycle has a profound effect on the tides and currents of the oceans and on the ebb and flow of our emotions, our bodies and our lives. As we track the movements of the celestial bodies across the sky we are inspired to think of things that are bigger than ourselves contemplate our lives and our problems in the context of eternity and infinity.
And so the music of this album is definitely born here on earth, it’s made of the earthly yearnings, urges and desires that all of us share, but it has its sights set on the heavenly bodies of the firmament and imagines the mythological stories and ancient truths which are enveloped in the stars.
And speaking of stars, I'd like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the brilliant talents which have convened in the shining constellation which is Telavana. I am so grateful to be able to create music with such incredible musicians, hailing from Puerto Rico, Israel, Cuba & New York, and to have the great privilege of hosting stellar special guests like Keisel Jimenez (on Taurus) and J Hoard (on Virgo) . This album is about all of us, our planet, our universe and the most powerful and potent force which helps us make sense of it : love!
